Open Djed
Open Djed is an open-source project designed to provide a transparent, reliable, and community-driven way to interact with the Djed stablecoin ecosystem. It empowers users, developers, and organizations to access and integrate Djed functionalities with greater flexibility and independence.
Rather than introducing a new stablecoin protocol, Open Djed serves as an alternative interface and interaction layer for the existing Djed protocol developed by COTI and IOG. Its purpose is to enable seamless interaction with Djed without depending on the original COTI application.
Why Open Djed?
The motivation behind Open Djed comes from several limitations and issues observed with the official COTI Djed application, including:
- Frequent application failures and bugs.
- Accessibility problems in certain regions.
- Lack of recent updates and improvements.
- Limited transparency and flexibility for integration.
By offering an open, community-driven alternative, Open Djed aims to:
- Provide a more reliable and accessible way to interact with the Djed protocol.
- Enable independent audits, improvements, and integrations.
- Foster innovation and collaboration within the Cardano and DeFi communities.

Open Djed History
The Beginning: Reverse DJED
The journey started with Reverse DJED, a proof-of-concept interface that demonstrated the feasibility of creating an alternative way to interact with the Djed protocol. This early version:
- Provided the core functionality for minting and burning DJED/SHEN
- Validated the concept of reverse-engineering and communicating with on-chain smart contracts
- Showcased that an independent UI/API layer could reliably access the protocol
- Proved there was real community demand for a decentralized alternative to the official COTI app
While functional, Reverse DJED was basic in design and user experience. It served as the foundation, but the community feedback made it clear we needed a more polished, accessible product.
The Evolution: Reverse DJED → Open DJED
As adoption grew and community feedback accumulated, we realized the importance of transforming this proof-of-concept into a professional, user-friendly platform. This led to a complete rebranding and redesign that became Open DJED.
The evolution introduced major improvements:
Key improvements highlighted:
- Clean themes and modern visual design
- Fully responsive interface (desktop, tablet, mobile)
- USD equivalents displayed by default
- Better overall accessibility and usability
